Whether Kenya, Spain or Mexico – “distance” is no foreign word for us.
To get a better picture of our international projects in extracts, the projects in these
three countries are briefly presented below. However, the general radius of activity is
even larger (see world map).
During a 5-day workshop in Kenya, we trained 35 energy managers in the application of ISO 50001 using the example of a dairy in Nairobi. In addition, a workshop was held with government representatives on the experience gained in implementing ISO 50001 in Germany and the possibilities for its application in Kenya. During this workshop, the systematic, structured approach was presented to the participants in the context of an on-site analysis of a milk-processing industrial company and the knowledge of how to apply it was imparted.
Furthermore, we were significantly involved in the 3-year European research project DRIP (Demand Response in Industrial Production), which took place for the most part on Spanish soil, under the leadership of RWE. Other participants were the grid operator Essent, the University of Valencia, the meat producers Stegeman from the Netherlands, Campofrio from Spain and Klingele Papierwerke from Germany.
Our task was to develop a procedure for uncovering potential for reducing electricity consumption when companies have a high (and cheap) supply of electricity, and to standardize the process for identifying the potential. Our additional tasks alongside the technical issues arose from the further requirement to create the basis for a standardized and systematic recording of the potentials as well as for a later certification. For this purpose, we developed a recording tool that can be used throughout Europe to determine the economically achievable potentials.
Another project took place within the framework of the PRONASGEn cooperation project between the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt and the Mexican Comisión Nacional para el Uso Eficiente de la Energía, in which we supported 20 Mexican SMEs with high energy consumption in increasing their energy efficiency and introducing an energy management system in accordance with ISO 50001.
